He Sent His Son

To teach this song, I will be presenting the questions and answers on the chalkboard, similar to what is suggested in the 2014 Sharing Time Outline on page 26.  Pretty simple.

One side of the chalkboard will contain the questions/keywords all in order.  The other side of the chalkboard will contain the answers and a picture of the answer but out of order.  The activity will be  gradually connecting each question to the correct answer by drawing a line with chalk.

You can access my document HERE (with the exception of the pictures which are all from the Gospel Art Book, or GAB.  I'd highly suggest you get yourself a copy of it. See what I've done with my book HERE, just scroll down a bit.  You can also download and print any of the pictures HERE as well).

Place these 2 pages front and back in a sheet protector:

Before primary, using magnets, hang the sheet protectors containing the questions on the left side of the chalkboard with only the keywords facing out and in order (the questions will be facing the chalkboard, hidden).  Then on the right side of the chalkboard, hang all the pictures facing out and out of order (the answers will be facing the chalkboard, hidden).

To introduce the song, have the pianist play it on the piano and ask if the children can sing the song using what is hung on the chalkboard.  Some may already know it and some may not.  Tell them this song is a list of questions and answers about how Heavenly Father sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to show us how we should live.

For the lesson, turn over the first key word.  Read the question and see if the kids can find the picture that corresponds to the question.  With chalk, draw a line to the picture of Christ as a baby and flip it over to reveal the words.  Quickly discuss each Q and A.  Sing the first question and corresponding answer.  Repeat until all 5 questions/answers are turned over revealing all the words and a line is drawn to each answer.  If time permits, gradually turn the words back so only the pictures and keywords are facing out and the song is learned.  Bear testimony of your deep love for Heavenly Father and for His Son, Jesus Christ.

For Jr. Primary, I am going to incorporate the actions/signs that were posted on the LDS Chorister's Facebook as we learn each of the lines of the song.  I think it will help break up the monotony as this song has a lot of verbiage.  Here's the video (a HUGE thank you!):

great job and great ideas for this song. i will using this idea with a twist of having children come up and hold a Q or A and all stand in row up front with he Qs and As mixed up. they will have to put them in right order while we sing the song. :)

thank you so much for this great way to present this song! You broke up the song in questions and answers, which has really helped ME understand more meaning with the song. And this will be a great way to review this song with my Primary children.
